In all businesses, regardless of how large or small they are, they have one thing in common; they have a HR department. Human resources is crucial for success for any business as they are the heart and soul of the company and keeps it together, while making sure it runs smoothly. Most people think that HR only comes out with payroll or handling employment, but they actually do much more for the company than that. The HR department is in charge of coming up with methods to control the budgeting and spending of the company. They can be considered the financial planners of the company as they come up with methods to increase price efficiency while cutting costs. They also analyze and study employment trends, the labor market and average salaries of jobs to ensure the company’s wages are competitive and realistic. Since some small businesses have strict budgets to stick to, HR is particularly useful in this situation.

 

2. Company Mom

The HR department has the responsibility of taking care of not only the employees salary, they also take care of their satisfaction and happiness within the company and their careers as well. Since it can be difficult to gauge satisfaction as it is subjective, HR specialists must carefully design employee surveys, oversee focus groups and implement new strategies to determine how the company can improve in relation to its employees. In other words, workers are like children and HR is like the mom that oversees everything.

HR specialists conduct assessments for the company’s employees in order to determine the type of training and skills employees must have to properly execute their task efficiently. Even though it is important to make sure that all workers must have the qualifications and skills necessary to meet the expectations of a position, new companies or businesses in the expanding stage will benefit from this a lot. Companies usually put the responsibility of training and hiring perfect candidates to HR specialists as it is cheaper and may improve employee retention and increase revenue.

It is undeniable that there will be disagreements and conflicts at work, regardless of how satisfied employees are overall. When this happens, a HR specialist will be a mediator for the opposing parties and help them come to a conclusion and solve it to the best interest of both parties. Again coming back to the mom analogy, it is like when a mother steps in when siblings are fighting to come up with a solution for the both of them.

 

5. Performance Improvement

Yet another responsibility of the HR department is the development of performance management systems. Without a HR specialist to construct a plan that measures employee performance, employees may end up in jobs that aren’t suitable for their expertise and skills. Not only will this contribute to employee dissatisfaction, but individuals who consistently fall below the employer’s expectations for performance may sneak by on the payroll, thereby costing the company money on low-performing employees that are not helping the business to succeed.

From improving company morale and developing methods to ensure high performance standards to resolving conflicts among employees and ensuring a company stays within its budget, there are at least five reasons HR is so important for business success.
